"In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer."
– Albert Camus
In early 2026, Canada and the rest of NATO, along with countries in Central and South America, are unexpected allies in a cold war against the United States. This was not something any of us chose. But the first target was the people of the U.S., then Venezuela, and apparently Greenland next. My country, Canada, is on the shortlist.
We need to be planning a long term strategy for nonviolent resistance. In the event that things get physical, the goal would be to restore democracy with a non-military government and least loss of life.
It can be hard to remain calm while witnessing the rapid rise of fascism in the United States, and authoritarian impluses from federal and provincial governments in Canada – especially when people around you seem not to understand or care. You’re not crazy, but you may be in need of ‘resistance therapy’. By taking some form of action you can soothe yourself a little, contribute something to the slowly growing opposition, find people who also see the truth, and strengthen yourself for whatever may come in future.
I didn’t know what to do either. I’ve chosen to take on tasks that either I have skills for or would be interested in learning. So I’m helping in a local resistance group, creating protest artwork, and creating a way for organizataions to empower citizen advocates to engage directly with leaders. I hope something you find here can help you in the work you take on, and that by sharing some of that you can find a bit of relief from the burden of knowing. We will be tested, but we’ll get through this together.
Empower yourself with snazzy memes for social media and protest signs. Free to use and adapt for your feed or public demonstrations.
Help others come up to speed with what has been going on. You won’t feel alone for long.
